General Data Protection Regulation Impact on the Health & Nutrition Industry

21 February 2018
Pakhuis de Zwijger, Amsterdam

In order to maintain good health, a shift in emphasis from clinical interventions to preventative interventions is gradually taking place. Amongst preventative interventions, food products having certain health effects and IVD’s evaluating health aspects can play an important role. Gaining evidence for substantiating health effects and evaluation of personal health requires processing of personal data. As of 25 May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will apply. Compared to current law, the GDPR is far more detailed and prescriptive in requirements and introduces new regulatory concepts that will impact the health & nutrition industry severely.

The seminar will address the impact the GDPR will have on businesses processing personal data in the field of health & nutrition. Topics of debate will be the introduction of a specific regulation for genetic data, the concept of personal data concerning health, the right to be forgotten, profiling requirements, data portability rights of patients / end users and new security requirements.
